Every.org can be treated as a US 501(c)(3) public charity as described under IRC Sections 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).
We use a donor-advised fund (DAF) structure to serve as an intermediary for donation purposes. As the legal recipient of donations, tax deductions come from Every.org and we handle the conversion of asset donations to cash for nonprofits. Our mission expands beyond distributing funds, and we don't hold investments for individuals.
Some outdated databases may think we are a private foundation, because we initially formed as a private foundation but are now in our 5-year advance ruling period as a public charity. Please see our letter from the IRS here. Per the letter, you can rely on our status as a 501(c)(3) public charity until at least March 31, 2025 after which the IRS will make a final determination.
You can also verify our public charity (PC) status on the official IRS database by searching our EIN: 61-1913297
